LEAVING

I’m cleaning out the cupboards
And the cobwebs in my mind
Packing in – moving out
To see what I can find
If I find that I am lost
Would you be so kind
As to look where I can’t see
And I’ll meet you halfway tonight
Somewhere out of sight
Somewhere out of my mind
I’m sitting on the sidelines
Till the coach gives the word
Keeping to the guidelines
Though the terms have been blurred
Aligned alliteration it seems so absurd
But it all adds up to me
I’m hitting full throttle on this flea-ridden course
Sitting in the saddle of a three-legged horse
Been tipping the bottle since the newly-wed divorce
And the glass is half-empty
Leaving is the beginning of arrival
And when you have nowhere to go
You’re always almost there
