I’ll tell you a tale both tried and true
About a poor country boy who tried to start life anew
He tried the city life and tried to be true
He tried day and night- twas all that he knew
The folk from all around saw the sparkle in his eye
They envied his perspective, hoped that he would die
They saw how he would bleed, easily-- for anyone
They jabbed and they jeered, they stabbed and they steered
This poor young man off the path he veered
Now he was broken down in the devil’s dark wood
Take the easy way? He’d find it if he could
He came across a cottage amidst the steel trees
The refuge he had sought from the cold constant breeze
Out stepped an old lady with a sparkle in her eyes
He envied her perspective- take it he could try
She saw how easily he would bleed for anyone
She took him inside, fed him as he cried
Then set him back on the path
With a sparkle in his eye
